Yume Nikki 3D is a 3D version of Yume Nikki, the hugely popular psychological horror adventure that, despite having a number of features common to RPGs, actually offers an experience closer to the graphical exploration games.
In Yume Nikki 3D, players take on the role of Madotsuki, a youngster who hardly ever leaves the house and spends all her time watching TV and playing video games. However, every time she falls asleep, she suffers from some very strange nightmares.
So every day, you can watch TV, which has no effect on Madotsuki, or play video games, which turns out pretty boring, or better, take her off to bed to sleep… at which point the nightmares kick in.
When you are sleeping, Madotsuki's tiny apartment becomes a world of weird settings where you can explore the troubled mind of your protagonist (or so it seems).
Within each of the more than twenty 'worlds' you can visit during the game, it is possible to buy an 'effect' that lets you move forward in the game and learn a little more about what is happening. However, the reality is that you never have a definite explanation; instead everything is a free interpretation of the player.
Yume Nikki 3D is a really disturbing horror game that has thousands of followers and fans for a good reason: it offers an interesting gaming experience that goes far beyond its somewhat neglected graphics.
